Copperweld® launched the ArcAngel™ line of conductors, which has copper like performance and flexibility; it feels just like copper. By partnering with connector vendors, the conductors are compatible with commercial connectors along with all standard connectors.

Copperweld® has focused this product group to create fusing current equivalents to #2, 2/0, 4/0, 350kcmil and 500kcmil copper. The ArcAngel™ grounding conductors carry more fault current than copper with max strand diameter of No.10 CCS and can take two full-rated shorts at the IEEE 80 value. In the table below is a comparison of fault current ratings between copper and ArcAngel™ and it can be seen that copper does not in fact meet the IEEE standards for fault current ratings, whereas ArcAngel does.

The ArcAngel™ line of conductors is named in accordance to Table 6 in the IEEE Std-80. The performance of ArcAngel™ meets or exceeds short circuit requirements, whereas the performance of copper does not. For example, the 4/0 Copper is supposed to achieve 44kA on the outer limit, the ultimate fusing current, of 44kA. The equivalent is the ArcAngel™ 44, which meets the requirements, unlike copper which only achieves 41kA, as shown below in the table on the right. IEEE indicates the ultimate carrying capabilities for copper grounding cables in Table 6, however the table on the right below shows that copper does not in fact meet the standards, whereas the ArcAngel equivalents do. Meeting this threshold is the objective of the ArcAngel™ line of conductors.
