The month of June is National Indigenous History month, an opportunity for all to recognize and celebrate the rich history, unique heritage, resilience, and diversity of First Nations, Inuit, and Metis people. National Indigenous Peoples Day takes place on the summer solstice, June 21. This important day is celebrated all over Canada with each province hosting various events. How to Honor and National Celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day

Celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Day can take many forms. There are many Indigenous-led organizations hosting educational activities and events, that bring cultural celebrations  to public stages across the country. To respectfully celebrate the Indigenous People, follow some of the tips mentioned below.

  • Identify and acknowledge the traditional lands and territories you live and work.

  • Attend a celebration hosted by an Indigenous organization that honors Indigenous people and cultures.

  • Read books about Indigenous people, history, or culture.

  • Spread the word by talking with others about the importance of recognizing Indigenous people and celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Day.
