Copperweld Century Grid

Century Grid is Copperweld’s flagship family of grounding conductors and structural cables, installed in the harshest environments for over 100 years. With twice the strength of copper, Century is used in applications where high tensile strength, corrosion resistance, and theft deterrence are required.

  • Product range: AWG #6 – 500 kcmil (MCM)

  • Voltage range: 1 kV (Medium) - up to 800 kV (High)

  • Construction: solid conductor (1 strand) up to 19 strands for additional flexibility

Century Grid CCS is:

  • The first product Copperweld developed over 100 years old.

  • An alternative and an upgrade to standard bare copper in grounding solutions.

  • Since CCS is copper-coated steel wire, its recycling value is zero as the copper cannot be separated from the steel, making it less appealing to copper thieves, discouraging theft and damage to the electrical infrastructure.

  • More cost-effective—As copper is significantly more expensive than steel, CCS wires reduce the amount of copper used by using a steel core with only a thin layer of copper, thereby lowering the overall material costs. Typical savings range from 10 to 30%.

  • Strong: it combines the high tensile strength of steel with copper's conductivity and corrosion resistance, leading to potentially lower lifecycle costs due to its durability and longevity, especially in applications like grounding where mechanical strength is crucial.

FINISHES:

Century Grid CCS comes in 3 finishes: Bare, Camo and Hide. Choose whichever fits you application the best.

BARE

Your basic option, with the strength of steel and the conductivity of copper. Great for most simple applications.

CAMO™

Your trusty CCS grounding conductor in performance, but camoflauged as steel for additional theft deterrance.

HIDE™

PVC jacket that provides sequential footage markings and mechanical protection along the length of the cable.
